One-third of voters give Trump an F for first year: poll

More voters would give President Trump an F on his presidential report card than any other grade, according to a new Politico/Morning Consult poll out Tuesday.

According to the survey, 35 percent of respondents said they would give Trump a failing grade as he approaches the end of his first year in office. An identical percentage said they would give him an A or a B.

Fourteen percent of respondents graded Trump’s first year in office as a C, while 11 percent gave him a D grade, pollsters found.

The survey found a stark difference in how those who identify as Republicans and those who identify as Democrats would grade Trump. 

Seventy-two percent of Republicans said they would grade Trump’s first-year performance as an A or a B, while only 10 percent gave him a D or an F.

Democrats, on the other hand, were far more critical of Trump’s performance. Seventy-nine percent said they would give him a D or an F, and just 8 percent said his first year warranted an A or a B.

Forty-five percent of independents said they would give Trump a D or an F, while 27 percent would give him an A or a B, according to the Politico/Morning Consult poll. 

Trump gets his highest marks on jobs, with 42 percent of respondents saying that the president deserves an A or a B. Still, 35 percent said he should get a D or an F.

Trump’s approval rating has remained relatively low throughout his first year in office. According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, the approval of Trump’s job performance hovered at about 39 percent as of Tuesday.

The Politico/Morning Consult poll surveyed 1,988 people from Jan. 4-5. It has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
