Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday announced that he will undo an Obama-era policy that gave states the freedom to allow recreational use of marijuana.
The decision, which the Justice Department calls a “return to the rule of law,” will likely put the federal government in conflict with states where marijuana is legal for recreational use.
California became the sixth state to legalize recreational marijuana on Monday. Other states that have legalized recreational marijuana include Colorado, Nevada, Alaska, Oregon and Washington state. Massachusetts and Maine are set to join those states later this year.
