Secret Service: We didn’t escort Omarosa off White House grounds

The Secret Service on Wednesday pushed back against reports that White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman was physically removed from White House grounds after being fired by chief of staff John Kelly.

“Reporting regarding Secret Service personnel physically removing Omarosa Manigault Newman from the @WhiteHouse complex is incorrect,” the Secret Service wrote on Twitter. 

“The Secret Service was not involved in the termination process of Ms Manigault Newman or the escort off of the complex,” the agency wrote in an second tweet. “Our only involvement in this matter was to deactivate the individual’s pass which grants access to the complex.”

The tweets came hours after American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan reported that Manigault Newman was escorted from the White House grounds shouting profanities after being told of her termination by Kelly. 

The White House said Wednesday that Manigault Newman had tendered her resignation as the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison and that her last day in the administration would be next month.

Manigault Newman was a reality TV star and contestant on season one of “The Apprentice,” the NBC reality show formerly hosted by President Trump. She is often referred to only by her first name.
