Trump campaign begins turning over documents to Mueller: report

President Trump’s campaign has started to hand over documents to Robert Mueller’s special counsel office as part of the federal investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, according to a new report.

John Dowd, an attorney at the Jones Day law firm who represents Trump, told The Daily Beast that he has personally delivered some documents to Mueller’s team and that he is in the process of producing more.

“Jones Day has got a wonderful team handling the production,” Dowd said, adding that the campaign was in “total cooperation” with the investigation.

The Trump campaign has previously turned over documents to congressional investigators, but this is the first confirmation of documents produced for Mueller’s office at the Justice Department.

{mosads}Mueller impanelled a grand jury in August as part of his investigation into Trump’s possible collusion with Russia. The White House has maintained that Trump is not personally under investigation, and that the president favors any move that accelerates the probe.

“Grand jury matters are typically secret. The White House favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly,” White House lawyer Ty Cobb said in August. “The White House is committed to fully cooperating with Mr. Mueller.” 

“Former FBI Director Jim Comey said three times the president is not under investigation and we have no reason to believe that has changed,” added White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders at the time.
