US, South Korea respond to North Korea ICBM launch with ‘show of force’

The United States and South Korea responded to North Korea’s successful test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by conducting a joint “show of force” Tuesday night.

The two countries responded to the North Korean launch with a show of force involving missiles being fired into the South China Sea, Reuters reported.

“The deep strike precision capability enables the (South Korean)-U.S. alliance to engage the full array of time critical targets under all weather conditions,” the U.S. Army said in a statement.

{mosads}Reuters reports that the Army Tactical Missile System, a surface-to-surface missile, and South Korea’s Hyunmoo Missile II, a ballistic missile, were involved in the test.

On Tuesday morning, North Korea’s government released a statement claiming a successful test launch and vowing that its weapon could “reach anywhere in the world.”

The test came days before President Trump’s meeting with world leaders at the annual G-20 summit in Europe later this week.
