Pence: Media ignoring facts and ‘spreading that fake news’

Vice President Pence tore into the media on Saturday, calling journalists “willing allies” of left-wing activists and politicians.

“While left-wing activists and their willing allies in the media, while they’ve been ignoring the facts and spreading that fake news, the American people know the truth,” Pence said to a cheering crowd at rally in Harrisburg, Pa.

“The truth is President Trump has been relentlessly delivering on the promises he’s made to the American people, and America is back,” he continued.

Pence’s comments came as President Trump prepared to take the stage at the rally celebrating his first 100 days in office.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump ripped into the media himself, writing on Twitter that reporters had largely ignored his “long list of achievements” in his first months in office.

“Mainstream (FAKE) media refuses to state our long list of achievements, including 28 legislative signings, strong borders & great optimism!” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, in Washington, reporters assembled for the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. Trump announced in February that he would not attend the annual gala, bucking decades of tradition.

The move — and Pence’s comments on Saturday — signaled ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and members of the press. Trump has frequently assailed news outlets that cover his administration critically as “fake news.”
