Nordstrom: ‘We made this decision based on performance’

Nordstrom continued Wednesday to defend its decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s line of clothing and accessories from its stores, saying it made the decision because of the brand’s performance.

“To reiterate what we’ve already shared when asked, we made this decision based on performance,” a Nordstrom spokeswoman said, according to a CNN reporter.

“Over the past year, and particularly in the last half of 2016, sales of the brand have steadily declined to the point where it didn’t make good business sense for us to continue with the line for now.”

{mosads}The spokeswoman said the company has had a “great relationship with the Ivanka Trump team.”

“We’ve had open conversations with them over the past year to share what we’ve seen,” the statement said, “and Ivanka was personally informed of our decision in early January.”

The statement comes after President Trump lashed out earlier in the day at Nordstrom, followed by press secretary Sean Spicer saying the retail giant attacked the president’s daughter and noting that Trump would defend his family when provoked.

“My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” Trump tweeted.

“This is a direct attack on his policies and her name, and so there’s clearly an attempt for [Trump] to stand up for her being maligned because they have a problem with his policies,” Spicer added at the daily press briefing.

Nordstrom, the Seattle-based retail giant, told The Seattle Times last week it would no longer carry the clothing line branded with the first daughter’s name.

It previously said its decision to drop the brand was based on its sales performance, noting the store has “thousands of brands.”

The department store has been under pressure to separate itself from the controversial first family. Some groups are pushing for boycotts of retailers that sell Trump products.
