Trump: Frederick Douglass ‘has done an amazing job’
President Trump on Wednesday praised famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass as “someone who’s done an amazing job.”
Speaking to a group of African-American leaders at the White House, Trump acknowledged he is aware of Douglass’s accomplishments.
“Frederick Douglass is an example of someone who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I noticed,” he said.

Douglass, who died in 1895, became a leader in the abolition movement after being freed as a slave. He also gained fame as an author, statesman and public speaker.
His former home in Washington’s Anacostia neighborhood, which is a national historic site maintained by the National Park Service, is located roughly five miles from the White House.
