Biden lands in Iraq for surprise visit
Vice President Biden arrived in Iraq on Thursday morning for a surprise visit.
Biden is there to try to restore political order to a country struggling in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
{mosads}Biden was greeted at the Baghdad airport by U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Stuart Jones and Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, according to pool reports.
“The Vice President has arrived in Iraq for meetings with Iraqi leadership focused on encouraging Iraqi national unity and continued momentum in the fight against ISIL,” said a representative for Biden, using an alternate acronym for the organization.
“The Vice President will also be discussing steps the international community can take to promote Iraq’s economic stability and further regional cooperation. He will also have an opportunity to thank US diplomatic and military personnel for their tremendous service.”
