America’s Opioid Epidemic: A Role for Technology
Technology is fast becoming a key tool for prescribers, pharmacists, payers, and the government in the nation’s response to the opioid crisis.
Leaders in Congress are currently spearheading efforts to put in place a law that will require electronic prescriptions for controlled substances under Medicare. Several states across the country have already taken the lead in mandating e-prescriptions to prevent doctor shopping and diversion.
What can we learn from the states that are using data and cutting-edge technology to combat the opioid epidemic? Are they having success? What challenges remain, how are they being addressed, and what is being done to encourage information sharing for a coordinated national response to the crisis?
The Hill will convene key policymakers, state officials, physicians, and technology experts for a conversation about harnessing technology to tackle the opioid epidemic.
