Larry Wilmore says he’s struggling to wrap his mind around what he dubs the “Trump phenomenon” and will be “shocked” if Republicans survive “another two years.”

“I just don’t understand the Trump phenomenon. It feels like it’s coming to an end, but I’m very suspicious of even saying that, because every time you feel that way, it doesn’t — it kind of turns around,” Wilmore, the host of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show,” tells SiriusXM’s Julie Mason.

{mosads}“I mean, the man has really nothing to say,” Wilmore says of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump in preview clips from an upcoming SiriusXM town hall obtained by ITK.

“And he says it horribly. And the combination of having nothing to say and being rewarded so much, I’ve never seen that happen.”

Wilmore also slams Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, likening the Texas senator to a Count Dracula-like character from a popular 1960s sitcom. “What’s on deck is ‘Grandpa Munster’ Ted Cruz, you know,” Wilmore quips to laughs from an audience at the town hall taping.

“Oh my God — I mean, who wants him coming down the stairs?” Wilmore continues.

“Who knows,” Wilmore says, “if the Republican Party survives another two years I’ll be shocked after all this, especially if Trump gets the nomination.”

Wilmore is poised to serve as the entertainer at the April 30 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington. The TV funnyman says he plans to “keep it 1,000” in his barbs at the annual soiree, typically attended by the president. And Wilmore says he has some advice for President Obama as he prepares to exit the White House: “Brother, just don’t take anything. It’ll look bad.”

The town hall with Wilmore debuts on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel 124 on April 29.
