Producers Guild votes out Harvey Weinstein

The Producers Guild of America on Monday voted to oust film producer Harvey Weinstein following numerous allegations of sexual assault and harassment, Deadline Hollywood reported.

The vote by the guild’s board of directors was reportedly unanimous. 

“This morning, the PGA’s National Board of Directors and Officers decided by unanimous vote to institute termination proceedings concerning Harvey Weinstein’s membership,” Lori McCreary and Gary Lucchesi, the guild’s presidents, said in a statement, according to Deadline Hollywood.

{mosads}Weinstein will have the chance to reply before a final decision is rendered on Nov. 6, McCreary and Lucchesi’s statement said.

“Sexual harassment of any type is completely unacceptable. This is a systemic and pervasive problem requiring immediate industry-wide action. Today, the PGA’s National Board and Officers — composed of 20 women and 18 men — created the Anti-Sexual Harassment Task Force specifically charged with researching and proposing substantive and effective solutions to sexual harassment in the entertainment industry,” the presidents added.

The guild’s vote is the latest amidst the fallout over the allegations against Weinstein, which were detailed in reports by The New Yorker and The New York Times. On Saturday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also voted to expel the movie mogul.

Weinstein has denied accusations of nonconsensual sex.

The reports have also forced Democratic politicians, including former President Barack Obama, to weigh in on the allegations due to Weinstein’s years as Democratic mega-donor.
