Correspondents’ association denies signing Larry Wilmore for dinner

Despite a tweet from a Comedy Central intern claiming that Larry Wilmore will headline the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner, the president of the journalist organization says no entertainer has yet been signed.

A self-described Comedy Central and “Nightly Show” intern tweeted Thursday:

{mosads}ITK reached out to WHCA President Carol Lee, a The Wall Street Journal reporter, who told us in an email that the group “has not signed a contract with anyone to headline the dinner.”

Representatives for Wilmore, who launched his “Daily Show” spinoff earlier this year, did not immediately return a request for comment.

Somewhat affectionately dubbed “Nerd Prom,” the annual celeb-infested gala, which raises money for journalism scholarships, has a history of tapping high-profile comedians to serve as the evening’s entertainment. Past performers at the black-tie event, which is traditionally attended by the president, include last year’s headliner, “Saturday Night Live” cast member Cecily Strong, as well as “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, and Joel McHale.

The 2016 dinner is scheduled for April 30.
