Tea Party raises funds off GOP ‘betrayal’

Tea Party groups sought to raise money Thursday after their demands were virtually ignored in the deal to fund the government and avoid default.

The Tea Party Express and Tea Party Patriots blasted Washington’s political establishment and accused both parties of “selling out” the public.

The Tea Party Patriots were particularly hard on Republicans, arguing that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) “refused to hold the line and fight ObamaCare.”

{mosads}”This betrayal must not go unanswered!” the group wrote in an email to supporters.

“Next month the Republicans are set to open new negotiations with the White House over spending. ObamaCare MUST be on the table. Mitch McConnell and his ‘Republicans’ must not cave again!” the email said.

The deal to reopen the government came just hours before the United States might have defaulted on its debt.

ObamaCare was completely spared in the final bill. Just one provision will require Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to explain to Congress how her department will verify the incomes of people on the new insurance exchanges.

Sebelius and the HHS inspector general will also be required to file reports about whether the income verification systems are effective.

The deal extends government funding and the U.S. debt limit until early next year.

The shutdown saga began when Republicans refused to fund the government unless Democrats agreed to defund, delay or undermine the healthcare law.
