Rubio: O-Care ‘built on a foundation of lies’

{mosads}“This week we learned that … people are, in fact, losing their health plans, and that President Obama’s administration has known this fact for over three years,” Rubio said in his weekly address to constituents.

“In essence, ObamaCare’s passage was built on a foundation of lies and promises that simply can’t be delivered.”

The Obama administration has struggled to defend President Obama’s 2009 claim that people could keep their old health insurance under ObamaCare as thousands of people receive notifications that their insurance companies were dropping their plans.

“You have people out there … they were happy with their plan,” Rubio continued. “It wasn’t perfect. It didn’t have everything. But it was what they could afford, and it was okay and good for them. And they were told that they would be able to keep that, but the Obama administration knew all along that wasn’t true. This is not an unintended consequence. This was an intended consequence. And yet, they were going around telling people that they would not lose their coverage despite knowing that between 50 and 70 percent of people who get insurance from the individual marketplace would lose their coverage.”  

Some Democrats have argued that people were only forced from their insurance if their health insurance companies no longer offered their plans. The administration has also pointed out that those who are losing their plans can often get a better plan through the healthcare exchanges, where they may be eligible for a federal subsidy.

But many insurers have stopped offering plans that do not comply with regulations issued by the Health and Human Services Department outlining basic levels of coverage. As a result, many consumers who currently buy their own health insurance will not be able to keep the plans they are enrolled in.

“This is just starting to hit people as they receive notices from their insurance companies that their plans are being dropped,” Rubio said. “We’ve heard from many Floridians who are being impacted, and they are outraged, as I am, by the president’s broken promise.”
