Clinton to Petraeus: ‘I have experience’
Hillary Clinton had kind words for former CIA Director David Petraeus after his resignation in 2012.
After Petraeus resigned when his affair with biographer Paula Broadwell was uncovered, Clinton wrote a note and called to express her sympathy.
{mosads}“I have a little experience,” she joked to Petraeus, according to HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton, which is being released Tuesday.
Petraeus made a rare jump into the political arena in the book, telling authors Amie Parnes of The Hill and Jonathan Allen of Bloomberg News that Clinton would make “a tremendous president.”
HRC details how Clinton courted Petraeus — as well as former Defense Secretary Robert Gates — over glasses of wine in her Washington home.
Clinton’s task of winning over Petraeus, President Obama’s top commander in Afghanistan before running the CIA, was no simple feat.
She had to mend fences after she was critical of the former general who commanded the Iraq War surge, saying at a 2007 hearing that accepting his testimony on Iraq would require “the willing suspension of disbelief.”
The book says that Petraeus once allowed Clinton to sleep in the bed on his military jet, while he slept on the floor of the plane just outside her room.
