Anti-US trade war song going viral in China

An anti-U.S. trade war song is going viral in China, Bloomberg News reported Monday.

Titled “Trade War,” the song has more than 100,000 views on WeChat, China’s largest social media platform.

{mosads}The song, set to the tune of an anti-Japanese song from the 1960s film “Tunnel War,” shows growing anti-U.S. sentiment in China.

It begins with a male chorus singing “Trade war! Trade War! Not afraid of the outrageous challenge! Not afraid of the outrageous challenge! A trade war is happening over the Pacific Ocean!”

The song also includes lyrics such as “if the perpetrator wants to fight, we will beat him out of his wits.”

“I chose ‘Tunnel War’ because that is reminiscent of the similar situation that China is facing today,” the song’s producer and lyricist Zhao Liangtian told Bloomberg. “Since the trade war broke out, I felt the urge to do something.”

Zhao is a member of the Poetry Institute of China, a group affiliated with the Communist Party’s propaganda department.

Tensions between the U.S. and China have risen since trade negotiations collapsed earlier this month.

The Trump administration raised tariffs from 10 percent to 25 percent on $200 billion of imports, and China responded by targeting $60 billion worth of U.S. agricultural exports.

President Trump has threatened another round of tariffs on Chinese imports as the trade dispute escalates.
