John Brennan rips Trump on Twitter about what it means to be ‘presidential’

Former CIA Director John Brennan took aim at President Trump on Twitter Monday after he blasted former White House aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman as a “lowlife.”

“While I know it’s ‘not presidential’ to take on a lowlife like Omarosa, and while I would rather not be doing so,” Trump said on Twitter Monday morning, “this is a modern day form of communication and I know the Fake News Media will be working overtime to make even Wacky Omarosa look legitimate as possible. Sorry!”

In response to Trump’s attack on the former White House aide, Brennan said on Twitter: “You’re absolutely right.”

“If you were ‘presidential,’ you would focus on healing the rifts within our Nation,” Brennan continued, “being truthful about the challenges we face, & showing the world that America is still that shining beacon of freedom, liberty, prosperity, & goodness that welcomes all.”

The former CIA head has regularly criticized Trump throughout his presidency, and in an op-ed published in The Washington Post earlier this year, he vowed to continue speaking out against the president “until integrity returns to the White House.”

Last month White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that President Trump is exploring whether to remove the security clearance for Brennan and other top Obama-era intelligence officials.

Sanders accused Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey and others of “politicizing” and “monetizing” their public service.
