Two new fundraisers seek to bring ‘Trump baby’ blimp to Washington, DC

A Maryland woman has created a GoFundMe page to raise money to bring the blimp depicting President Trump as an orange baby to Washington, D.C., according to a local CBS affiliate.

The woman who launched the new fundraising effort wants to bring the 20-ft-tall blimp that flew during recent protests in London to the nation’s capital, and possibly near the White House. 

“With whatever funds raised, I’d like to invite the organizers to bring the blimp here and pay either for their travel expenses and/or shipping costs, maybe even buy a copy that can stay here, possibly pay for it to fly on multiple occasions, or stay afloat somewhere near the White House or Mar-a-Lago,” Nina Corin wrote on the crowd funding page, which so far raised $1,970 of its $7,000 goal. 

{mosads}“I’m just a normal person sickened by what the person who occupies the White House is doing to our country, what he stands for, and the impact he’s having and will have on our future,” Corin said. “I’ve protested his policies and actions when possible. When I read that the blimp made him feel unwelcome in London and that the blimp would be following him on his diplomatic travels, I thought ‘well why not make him feel as unwelcome and uncomfortable at home as he makes so many of us in the U.S. feel?”

Protesters for Code Pink, a peace activist group based in Washington, D.C., that is known for loudly disrupting congressional committee hearings, are also gearing up to bring “Baby Trump” to the president’s Military Parade in the nation’s capital on November 10. 

“Donald Trump plans to beat the drums of war down the streets of our nation’s capital.  While he tries to show how macho and strong he is, we will show him as the big baby he is,” protesters wrote on the GoFundMe page, which has raised $7,265 of its $20,000 goal.

Protesters in New Jersey set up a GoFundMe page last week to bring the blimp to Bedminster, N.J., a city where one of Trump’s golf courses is located. The crowdfunding campaign raised more than $20,000, surpassing its original goal of $4,500, to bring the blimp to the Garden State in mid-August.

The “Trump baby” blimp first made headlines earlier this month after protesters raised money to fly it over Britain’s Parliament as Trump made his first visit to the country while in office.  

The president later said that he felt “unwelcome” in London due to the protests during his visit to the United Kingdom. 

“I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London,” Trump told the British tabloid The Sun.
