David Hogg to take gap year to work on midterms, help educate new voters

Parkland, Fla., shooting survivor David Hogg is planning to take a gap year after he graduates from high school to work on the midterm elections and help educate new voters.

His mother, Rebecca Boldrick, told CNN that Hogg had been accepted to the University of California, Irvine.

But, she said he “will not be going to college this year because he’s decided to take a year off and work on the midterm elections.”

{mosads}Hogg plans to work to “get people to vote,” his mother said.

Hogg, a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, became a vocal advocate for gun control after a gunman opened fire at his high school, killing 17 people.

He has rallied lawmakers in the Florida capital and helped to organize the “March for Our Lives” event last month in Washington, D.C.

During the event, Hogg spoke to hundreds of thousands of attendees and warned lawmakers they would be voted out of office if they didn’t take action on gun control.
