Vegas billboard vandalized to read ‘Shoot a school kid only $29’

A billboard in Las Vegas advertising a deal to “Shoot a .50 caliber” for “only $29” was vandalized on Thursday to read, “Shoot a school kid only $29.”

The billboard originally bore an advertisement for a local shooting range called Battlefield Vegas, according to CNN.

The company that owns the billboard, Lamar, told CNN that “it immediately removed the billboard at the request of the authorities, and we’re cooperating with law enforcement agencies as they investigate further.”

An artist collective called INDECLINE took credit for the vandalism, saying that it wanted to address gun control. A slogan placed the at the bottom of the billboard by the collective read, “Defend Lives, Reform Laws.”

The group told CNN that it chose the Battlefield Vegas billboard because of the company’s “aggressive name and location” near the Las Vegas Strip.

INDECLINE is the group that was also behind a set of naked statues of President Trump unveiled in several U.S. cities in 2016.

The billboard vandalism came weeks after a deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., left 17 people dead and 14 others injured.

That shooting reignited an intense national debate over the nation’s gun laws and put pressure on politicians to strengthen restrictions on firearms.

A billboard in Louisville, Ky., was vandalized last week to read “Kill the NRA,” referring to the National Rifle Association, which has come under intense public scrutiny in the wake of the Parkland shooting.
