Former Trump aide Dina Powell in talks to return to Goldman Sachs: report

Former White House adviser Dina Powell is reportedly in discussions to return to Goldman Sachs.

Powell, who left the White House earlier this year, is in talks to assume a global role at the financial firm that would entail working with multinational companies and sovereign-wealth funds, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Sources told the newspaper that Goldman executives have talked about appointing Powell to the firm’s management committee. While talks are ongoing, they may not result in a position for Powell, according to the report.

Powell joined Goldman in 2007 and was made a partner in 2010. Powell, who is Egyptian born, left her White House post this year after helping drive much of the Trump administration’s Middle East policy.

She was reportedly an ally of senior advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner in their internal White House battle with the nationalist wing of the administration, which was at the time led by former chief strategist Stephen Bannon. 

Powell served as a staffer in former President George W. Bush’s administration prior to joining Goldman.

Harvard University also announced earlier this month that Powell would be joining the Ivy League institution as a nonresident senior fellow.
