Two Secret Service officers fired over White House breach: report

Two Secret Service officers have reportedly been fired over a March 10 security breach in which a man climbed over the White House fence and remained on the grounds undiscovered for more than 15 minutes. 

Law enforcement officials told CNN Thursday that the two officers were fired over their handling of the incident.

A Secret Service spokeswoman declined to comment on the firings in a statement to The Hill but said “all Secret Service personnel are held to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct.”

“The Secret Service review of the March 10 incident is ongoing,” Secret Service communications director Cathy Milhoan said. “The Secret Service continues to take appropriate actions based upon findings of the mission assurance review. We do not comment on personnel actions.”

{mosads}Jonathan Tran, 26, of California, is accused of scaling the fence shortly before midnight on March 10 and approaching a White House entrance before being apprehended. President Trump was in the building at the time.

Documents later showed that the intruder was carrying two cans of mace, as well as a letter he wrote to Trump.

Trump praised Secret Service members the following day, telling reporters ahead of a meeting with Cabinet officials that the agents did a “fantastic job.” He also called the intruder “a troubled person.”

A Secret Service officer identified as a member of the White House’s Uniformed Division arrested Tran, saying he admitted to scaling the fence.

Last month, reports said at least six Secret Service members would be disciplined over the security breach. This is the first report of any firings.
