1M Britons sign petition to stop Trump’s official visit to UK

More than 1 million people in the United Kingdom have signed a petition demanding President Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom be canceled in the wake of his executive order blocking refugees and people from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.

The petition has 1,160,000 signatures as of Monday morning. That’s more than 10 times the number needed for the U.K.’s Parliament to consider the proposal.

The petition says Trump’s visit to the U.K. would “cause embarrassment” to Queen Elizabeth II.

{mosads}“Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen,” the petition says.

“Donald Trump’s well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales,” its continues. “Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official state visit.”

The Telegraph reported, however, that Prime Minister Theresa May’s office is rejecting calls to block Trump’s official visit. May was the first foreign official to visit the White House after Trump’s inauguration.

{mosads}The Telegraph reported that the White House informed Boris Johnson, the U.K.’s secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, that the majority of British citizens won’t be affected by the order.

A federal judge on Saturday issued an emergency stay blocking the deportation of detainees under the order — becoming the first successful legal action used against the Trump administration.

Tens of thousands of Americans protested Trump’s executive order around the country this weekend. Protests extended across U.S. cities and airports, including thousands of demonstrators gathering at the White House on Sunday.
