Inauguration Day DC Metro card doesn’t have Trump on it

Washington Metro’s special edition fare card for the presidential inauguration doesn’t have President-elect Donald Trump’s image or name on it.

The transit agency’s commemorative SmartTrip card for the 2017 inauguration has an emblem of the White House and an American flag in the background instead.

In 2009 and 2013, the SmartTrip cards featured images of Barack Obama.

Roll Call’s Todd Ruger pointed out the differences on Twitter.

Ruger also posted a message he received from the transit authority explaining why Trump’s face isn’t on the card. The agency said the Trump transition team had not approved a request to use his image.

“Per WMATA policy, we contacted the … transition team to request the approved photo and determine if the administration was interested in participating,” they wrote to Ruger. “We have not as of yet received a response.”

It is unclear whether the transit agency would release another edition of the card with Trump’s image if his transition team eventually approves.

The $10 cards can be used for unlimited access to the Metro and buses in D.C. on Inauguration Day. The cards can continue to be used after the inauguration, too, but must be loaded with more fare money.

Thousands are expected to travel to D.C. for the inauguration on Jan. 20.
