Almost half of Arizona residents think border wall a ‘waste of money’
Nearly half of Arizona resident say they think Donald Trump’s proposed border wall would be a waste of money, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
{mosads}Pollsters found that 47 percent of Arizona residents said the wall would be a waste of money, and just 34 percent said it would be an effective barrier.
Among Republicans, 21 percent said the wall would be a waste of money, and 57 percent said it would be an effective barrier.
Trump’s proposed wall along the southern border has been a signature part of his campaign.
The GOP presidential nominee often brings up his plan to build a wall during his campaign speeches and rallies when speaking about his immigration proposals.
He has also vowed that Mexico will pay for the wall.
But most Arizona residents don’t think it’s realistic to expect Mexico to pay for the wall, according to the poll.
In Florida, slightly more residents think the wall would be effective. Forty-one percent of voters in Florida think the wall would be a waste of money, and 36 percent think it would be an effective barrier.
In the nationwide poll, 49 percent of Americans said the wall would be a waste of money, and 31 percent said it would be an effective barrier.
The Arizona poll was conducted from Oct. 5 to Oct. 19 among 2,600 people. The Florida poll was conducted from Oct. 5 to Oct. 12 among 2,610 people. The margin of error is 2 percentage points.
