Biden scraps fundraising appearance after Orlando shooting
Vice President Biden scrapped a planned fundraising appearance on Sunday in Miami for Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the aftermath of a mass shooting in Orlando, Fla.
{mosads}Biden, who is in his hometown of Wilmington, Del., will return to Washington Sunday evening, his office said.
The vice president was supposed to attend a fundraiser for Wasserman Schultz’s reelection campaign. The controversial committee chairwoman is running in a tough congressional race against primary challenger Tim Canova.
President Obama and Biden have both been briefed on the nightclub attack in Orlando, which left 50 dead and 53 people injured.
“Vice President Biden offered his prayers for all those killed and injured in the shooting and sends his condolences to all the families and loved ones of the victims,” a spokesman said. “He is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to receive regular updates as we know more.”
