Supreme Court rejects corruption case against ex-Rep. Jefferson
He was found convicted of 11 of 16 corruption counts in 2009. His 13-year sentence was the longest ever set for a Congressman. He began serving it earlier this year.
{mosads}The corruption charges circled around bribes Jefferson accepted for promoting a Kentucky-based technology company in Africa.
Jefferson’s defense team argued that his lobbying on behalf of the company during trips to Africa were not considered “official acts” of Congress and not subject to federal corruption laws.
A federal appeals court upheld 10 of 11 charges in March. And, on Monday, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal without comment.
