Woman hurls shoe at Hillary in Vegas
Former secretary of State Hillary Clinton had to duck to avoid an object that was thrown at her during a speech Thursday in Las Vegas.
According to The Associated Press, a woman, who was taken into custody, said she threw a shoe at the former first lady. The woman did not giver her name or explain why she threw it.
Clinton joked about the incident and resumed speaking.
The throw occurred shortly after Clinton took the stage for a meeting of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries at the Mandalay Bay casino. Since leaving the State Department, Clinton has traveled the country, giving a series of high-paid speeches on her career and family.
According to The New York Times and The Washington Post, Clinton can command a fee of $200,000 for an appearance.
In December 2008, an Iraqi journalist at the prime minister’s palace in Baghdad threw his shoes at then-president George W. Bush. The practice is an insult, especially in the Arab world.
