Obama to welcome Red Sox to White House

President Obama will welcome the Boston Red Sox to the White House next Tuesday to celebrate the team’s 2013 World Series championship.

The team is likely to receive a hero’s welcome in the West Wing, where a sizable number of staff hail from New England.

Presidential photographer and Massachusetts native Pete Souza attended at least one of the World Series games, and could be spotted behind the Boston on-deck circle snapping photographs.

And White House press secretary Jay Carney wore a Red Sox hat for his regular press briefing the day after Boston clinched the title.

“What a great team! What a great win! What a lot of fun! What an amazing baseball player David Ortiz is!” Carney said.

Carney, who grew up outside Washington, D.C., later explained that he had both “a National League team and an American League team.”

White House regional communications director Keith Maley also tweeted his excitement about the upcoming championship ceremony:
