Cheney on Christie: He’s a ‘promising figure’

Former Vice President Cheney sees potential in New Jersey Gov. Christ Christie (R), according to a Monday interview.

“I think Chris is a promising figure. I don’t agree with him on a lot of things. I am more conservative than he is, but I think there are governors out there like Scott Walker in Wisconsin and Chris Christie in New Jersey … Chris Christie has to do a lot of work to earn the nomination, just like anybody else,” Cheney said in an interview that will air Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox Business Network’s “Cavuto.”

{mosads}Christie is considered a major contender for the Republican presidential race in 2016. He was reelected in a landslide in November to another term as governor.

He’s sometimes known for having a strong temper, and Cheney was asked whether he thinks Christie would display that part of his personality during a presidential campaign.

“I don’t know. I don’t know him that well. I had lunch with him once. I watched him operate. I wasn’t a fan of the way he welcomed Barack Obama to New Jersey when the [Hurricane Sandy] hit … he was the governor of New Jersey. He did what he thought was necessary,” Cheney added.

Asked if there’s a potential GOP candidate he likes for the 2016 presidential cycle, Cheney replied, “I don’t.”
