Trump winery seeks permission to hire foreign guest workers

The Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Va., is looking to hire six foreign guest workers, according to a document posted Wednesday by the Department of Labor.

Trump Vineyard Estates, which Eric Trump has owned since 2012, filed the request to hire farm workers and laborers to tend to crops and a greenhouse. 

The request was filed through the H-2A visa program, which allows U.S. employers to hire foreign agricultural laborers for temporary work as long as no qualified Americans want the jobs instead.

The jobs would pay $11.27 per hour and would run from Jan. 22, 2018, through July 13, 2018, according to the request.

The winery previously sought to hire 23 foreign workers to plant and harvest grapes last spring.

President Trump bought the property in 2011 but relinquished it to his son, Eric, soon after.

During his presidential campaign and since taking office, President Trump has lamented the loss of American jobs to immigrants and workers overseas.
