Kimmel to address new ObamaCare repeal bill Tuesday night

Jimmy Kimmel announced that he will discuss the new bill aimed at repealing ObamaCare on Tuesday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“Billy’s helping me write tonight’s monologue. I’ll give our thoughts on the #GrahamCassidy health ‘care’ bill,” he tweeted, emphasizing the “care” in the proposed legislation which would affect the enrollment in government health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) sponsored the new bill, which is poised as a last-ditch attempt to repeal ObamaCare before the Sept. 30 budget deadline.

On Monday, Kimmel tweeted a link to a Washington Post story saying the bill “flunks his own ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ test,” referring to a term used by Cassidy in addressing a previous bill aimed at repealing ObamaCare.

Kimmel previously went on air in May to defend the Affordable Care Act, revealing that his son Billy had been born with a heart defect that week and arguing that no family should be unable to afford lifesaving operations for such conditions.

The repeal bill would transfer funding from ObamaCare’s expansion of the Medicaid program, tax credits and cost-sharing payments to insurance companies into block grants for the states to allocate.

GOP senators are now gathering support for the Graham-Cassidy bill, which House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has called the “last, best hope” for ObamaCare repeal.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will air Tuesday at 11:35 p.m. EST on ABC.
