Dem calls for Senate to recognize LGBT Pride month after Trump didn’t

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) wants the Senate to formally recognize June as LGBT Pride month after President Trump never did.

Brown on Wednesday tweeted a Senate resolution to declare June LGBTQ Pride month, and criticized Trump for not issuing a White House proclamation.

“This year, the White House broke with an 8 year tradition and did not issue a presidential proclamation acknowledging June as Pride Month,” he wrote on Twitter. “So I’m proud to lead the first-ever Senate Resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride Month.”

Trump broke with tradition by not recognizing June as LGBT Pride month, but other members of his administration released statements marking the month, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Former President Clinton was the first to declare June as LGBT Pride month, but the George W. Bush administration dropped the practice.

Pride parades were held across the country this month. Los Angeles held a “Resist March” instead of a pride parade, and protesters covered Trump’s Walk of Fame star with #Resist stickers.
