Trump aide: Campaign eyeing blue states New Mexico, Michigan

Donald Trump’s senior communications adviser says the presidential campaign will make a play for New Mexico and Michigan.

“Both in New Mexico and in Michigan we’re showing dead heats in those states,” said Jason Miller in an interview Friday with WABC Radio’s Rita Cosby.

{mosads}”For all of the talk of Hillary Clinton supposedly going on offense with red states, she’s campaigning in blue states, and we’re making a play for blue states,” Miller added.

Despite Miller’s assertion, though, public polls in Michigan and New Mexico don’t show the candidates tied.

Clinton, the Democratic nominee, currently leads Trump by 7 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average in Michigan and 8 points in the New Mexico average.

Clinton and Trump have recently campaigned in multiple swing states. In the last week, both have made stops in Florida. The GOP nominee spoke at a rally in New Hampshire on Friday, and Clinton was slated to speak in Iowa.

Also on Friday, the Clinton campaign announced it would campaign in Arizona, a state Republican candidate Mitt Romney won in 2012.

Miller maintained that Trump is a “different candidate” who can win in states that do not traditionally go Republican.

“We feel very good about where the tide is turning here, and we’re just going to stay on offense all the way through,” he said.
