Endangered GOP Sen. Toomey: I voted for Trump

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) said Tuesday that he voted for Donald Trump, breaking his monthslong indecision over the GOP presidential nominee.

Toomey told a local reporter that he supported the real estate mogul after leaving a polling station Tuesday night.

“I really only came to this decision in the past couple of days,” he said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
{mosads}The announcement comes roughly an hour before polls close in Pennsylvania, meaning most voters made their decision in the key Senate race without knowing whom Toomey supported.

The endangered GOP senator has waffled for months on the presidential race. He declined repeatedly during a 10-minute interview earlier this month to say if he would vote for the real estate mogul, arguing Trump was a “deeply flawed” candidate.

“Like a lot of Pennsylvanians and a lot of Americans, I am a very disappointed in the choice we have,” he told a local Fox station when questioned about his support.

Questioned on whether voters deserved to know his stance on the presidential race, he fired back, “I don’t think they care nearly as much as you guys do.”

Toomey is locked in a tight Senate battle against Democrat Katie McGinty, the former chief of staff for Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf. McGinty has emerged as a late favorite in the race and went into Tuesday’s election leading the GOP senator by 2 points on average, according to RealClearPolitics.
