Koch group spending $2M in La. runoff

A group affiliated with conservative mega-donors the Koch brothers is spending $2.1 million in ads against Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in her runoff against Rep. Bill Cassidy (R).

Freedom Partners Action Fund wasted no time after news outlets projected that Landrieu and Cassidy were headed to a runoff after Cassidy won a plurality but neither won a majority on election night, hitting the Democratic incumbent.

{mosads}A new television ad claims Landrieu donated money to “anti-energy” Democratic senators and claims she is “working against” the people of Louisiana.

“When Sen. Landrieu is visiting Louisiana, she says one thing; but behind the scenes in Washington, she does the opposite,” Freedom Partners Action Fund spokesman James Davis said in an emailed statement.

“Sen. Landrieu tells constituents she supports Louisiana’s energy industry, while at the same time cutting deals and helping elect anti-energy Senators who oppose Louisiana’s way of life.”

The Associated Press reported that the group intends to spend more than $2 million in the race, but it is unclear if it will follow through if Republicans capture Senate control on Tuesday night.

Political watchers had predicted that a Louisiana runoff would decide control of the Senate, but Republicans on election night appeared on the cusp of taking the upper chamber.
