Poll: Louisiana Senate headed for runoff

Louisiana’s Senate race increasingly looks like it will only be decided by a December runoff.

Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu leads Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy in the race according to a new Suffolk University/USA Today poll released Monday, but only by 36 to 35 percent.

{mosads}Another Republican candidate, Tea Party favorite Rob Maness, is drawing 11 percent in the poll, while another 14 percent remain undecided.

If no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote next week, the race would head to a Dec. 6 runoff. In a two-person matchup, Cassidy bests Landrieu 48 to 41 percent in the poll, with 11 percent undecided.

The poll surveyed 500 people who are either likely voters or have already cast their ballots. It was conducted Oct. 23-26 via landlines and cellphones with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percent.
