Pryor says he wants Schumer, not Reid, as majority leader

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) wants to replace Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and give the job to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), he reportedly told donors at a private fundraiser last month.

{mosads}According to audio of a Democrats for Education Reform PAC fundraiser obtained by The Washington Free Beacon, Pryor said the “best thing that could happen” to the Senate would be if Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) “gets beat and Harry Reid gets replaced.”

Pryor then suggested Schumer as a replacement, according to the conservative website, saying he “does a pretty darn good job there in the Senate, and he’s actually, he’s not this crazy wild-eyed, left-wing liberal either.”

Pryor is in a tight race against Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and has previously offered tepid support for Reid. Republicans have sought to tie Pryor to Reid, though it’s unclear whether the New York senator would be any more palatable to Arkansas voters.
