FBI agents argued for Clinton Foundation investigation: report

FBI agents pushed for the Clinton Foundation to be investigated over claims that it gave favors and special access to donors, The Washington Post reported.

{mosads}According to the Post, the public integrity unit of the Justice Department said it did not have enough evidence to move forward with the case.

The Clinton Foundation reportedly was never contacted by the FBI.

“We are not aware of any investigation into the Foundation by the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, or any United States Attorney’s Office and we have not received a subpoena from any of those agencies,” a Clinton official told the Post.

The newspaper reported the FBI’s New York field office was looking into allegations including corruption and conflict of interest.

The Clinton Foundation has come under fire throughout the Democratic nominee’s presidential campaign regarding controversies over donations.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has attacked Clinton with allegations of a pay-to-play scandal involving donors to the Clinton Foundation.

The FBI in recent days has faced criticism after Director James Comey sent a letter to lawmakers that the bureau would be reviewing new emails it says are “pertinent” to its investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.
