Trump to supporters: ‘Lock her up is right’
Donald Trump reverted back to agreeing when his Monday night rally crowd chanted that Hillary Clinton should be locked up, one night after he said on the debate stage that the Democratic presidential nominee would be in jail under his administration.
{mosads}As he bashed Clinton for the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server as secretary of State, the crowd began to chat “Lock her up!” in what’s become a familiar refrain at Trump rallies.
Trump used to engage with the crowd, but has more recently distanced himself from the rally chants by telling the crowd: “We’re going to beat her in November.”
But during his rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Monday night, Trump agreed with his supporters.
“Lock her up is right!” he said.
During Sunday night’s debate, Trump told Clinton he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her if elected, to which Clinton replied that she’s happy that someone with his “temperament” is not president.
“Because you’d be in jail,” Trump replied.
Trump and Republicans have blasted Clinton for using a private email server while she was secretary of State. While FBI Director James Comey concluded after an investigation that she was “careless” with her handling of classified information, she wasn’t charged with a crime.
Clinton turned over about 30,000 work emails from that server to the State Department for its investigation, deleting another 30,000 she said were personal.
That FBI investigation subsequently uncovered some work emails within those deleted emails, and Trump bashed Clinton for that revelation during Sunday’s debate.
