NRA launches $6.5M ad push for Trump

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is unleashing its biggest advertising blitz yet for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, according to a new report.

The gun lobby is spending $6.5 million to promote the Republican nominee, Politico reported.

{mosads}NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told the news outlet that the campaign centers on a new ad that will run on cable television nationally.

The 30-second clip will also appear on broadcast networks in the crucial battleground states of Ohio, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, she added.

The NRA ad spotlights Kristi McMains, a 26-year-old lawyer who said a pistol in her purse saved her life.

McMains, listed as “Kristi M.” of Indianapolis in the spot, recounts how she fought off a knife-wielding attacker.

“[He] tried to stab me with an 8-inch knife,” she says. “But I carry a pistol. I fight back. That’s why I’m still here. Every woman has a right to defend herself with a gun if she chooses.”

“Hillary Clinton disagrees with that,” McMains adds. “Don’t let politicians take away your right to own a gun.

“Donald Trump supports my right to own a gun. Defend your rights — vote Donald Trump for president.”

The NRA endorsed Trump in late May, before he became the Republican presidential nominee, boosting his credibility with firearms owners.

The gun lobby has argued Clinton could appoint Supreme Court justices who would curtail Second Amendment rights if elected.

McMains told Politico Wednesday she is specifically backing Trump over Clinton due to their differences on the nation’s highest court.

“This election comes down to my Second Amendment rights — specifically, what happens with the Supreme Court,” she said in an email. “Without my gun, I would not be alive.

“This is a tough election for a lot of people, but I know where Donald Trump stands on Second Amendment rights, and I know where Hillary Clinton stands. I stand with Trump.”
