Poll: Most say Clinton won debate
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds that a majority of Americans believe Hillary Clinton won the first presidential debate on Monday.
{mosads}The poll found that, out of 2,000 responders, 56 percent thought the Democratic nominee won the debate, as opposed to 26 percent who said the same about Republican Donald Trump.
Among likely voters, 34 percent said that the debate changed their mind about Clinton in a positive way. About 19 percent of respondents felt the same way about Trump, her Republican rival.
Many also thought that Clinton’s performance in the debate improved her chances in the general election. Nearly 31 percent of the likely voters said that the debate had a positive effect on Clinton. Only 16 percent said that Trump’s performance improved his chances in November.
However, despite these numbers, the poll found that the debate victory did not boost her support among likely voters. The survey showed Clinton leading Trump 42 percent to 38 percent.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed a pool of 2,036 American adults. The margin of error is 4 percent.
