Hillary Clinton brought up Donald Trump’s past comments disparaging women as she rejected his claim that she doesn’t have the “look” or “stamina” to be president.
{mosads}Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, doubled down at the first presidential debate of 2016 on his recent comment that Clinton didn’t have a “presidential look,” saying it was related to her physical stamina, before a smiling Clinton returned fire.
“Well, as soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates a peace deal, a cease-fire, a release of dissidents, an opening of new opportunity in nations around the world, or even spends 11 hours testifying in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about stamina,” she said, to cheers from the Hempstead, N.Y., crowd.
Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, compared Trump’s “presidential look” remark to past comments about various women’s looks — echoing clips that her team frequently uses in attack ads.
“This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. Someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, said women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men,” she said, as Trump grimaced silently in TV split-screens.
Clinton added that Trump once called a Hispanic woman in one of his beauty pageants “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping.”
“She has become a U.S. citizen,” Clinton said, “and you can bet she is going to vote this November.”
