Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, on Monday shot back against claims that the Republican presidential nominee had lied about debate moderator Lester Holt’s political party.
{mosads}”He didn’t lie,” Conway said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“I think he did,” co-host Mika Brzezinski shot back.
“A lie would mean that he knew the man’s party registration,” Conway said.
Trump said last week that Holt is a Democrat, even though the NBC News anchor is a registered Republican.
“I have respect for Lester,” Trump told Bill O’Reilly. “Lester is a professional, but we’ll see what happens.
“By the way, Lester is a Democrat. It’s a phony system. They are all Democrats.”
Conway said Monday that she thinks Trump was trying to convey his frustration with the media. She noted she thinks Holt was a great choice to serve as the moderator in Monday night’s first presidential debate but slammed the media for its reporting.
“Start looking at the Twitter feeds of, quote, objective reporters, particularly our embeds,” Conway said.
“There are people who cover our campaign who actually just slander our candidate on Twitter, 92 percent … of at least two of our embeds tweets are negative toward Donald Trump.”
She questioned why reporters are covering the Trump campaign if they are not going to cover the candidate fairly.
“Excuse the Trump campaign if we feel like we can’t get a fair shake from certain people,” Conway said.
