Trump camp defends Skittles tweet: ‘Speaking the truth might upset’
Donald Trump’s campaign on Tuesday praised the candidate’s son after his controversial tweet comparing Syrian refugees to tainted Skittles and noted the truth might “upset” some.
“Don Jr. has been a tremendous asset to the campaign,” senior communications adviser Jason Miller said in a statement, according to NBC News.

Miller said in the statement the country has become “less safe” under Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and President Obama.
{mosads}He called “Clinton’s planned 550 percent increase” in Syrian refugees “a dangerous proposal that will put American lives at risk.”
“Speaking the truth might upset those who would rather be politically correct than safe, but the American people want a change,” Miller said in the statement.
“And only Donald Trump will do what’s needed to protect us.”
Donald Trump Jr. sparked controversy when he posted the metaphorical meme on Twitter.
The image shows a bowl of Skittles along with a caption that reads: “If I had a bowl of skittles [sic] and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syrian refugee problem.”
“This image says it all,” Trump Jr. wrote in another tweet. “Let’s end the politically correct agenda that doesn’t put America first.”
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate, called the media outrage over the tweet “remarkable.”
