Carter will vote for ‘quite unpopular’ Clinton

Former President Jimmy Carter says neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump is liked by voters, but he will be voting for the former secretary of State.

“It’s been an exciting and unprecedented kind of campaign this year, and unfortunately, the way it’s turned out, both choices in the major parties are quite unpopular,” he said Monday at a Habitat for Humanity construction site in Memphis, Tenn., according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}“But I don’t have any doubt that one of the candidates is better qualified than the other,” Carter added, announcing his support for Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee. “Everybody knows I’m Democratic, and I’ll be voting Democratic.”

Carter also joked about ejecting reporters who asked about Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.

“We’ll have questions later — anybody who asks about Donald Trump will be disqualified from the occasion and will have to leave,” he said. “So, I just want to give that one premise for the question-and-answer period. We want to stick to Habitat, if you don’t mind.”

Clinton and Trump have each struggled with voter enthusiasm since becoming the major-party presidential nominees.

Multiple polls have shown that both candidates draw high unfavorable ratings at both the state and national levels.
