Retired. Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, a supporter of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump who had been considered to be in the running for his vice presidential pick, retweeted an anti-Semitic message on Sunday.

{mosads}The retweet was a response to Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, saying Russia could be behind the hacking and release of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails in an attempt to aid Trump.

“The corrupt Democratic machine will do and say anything to get #NeverHillary into power. This is a new low,” Flynn tweeted, sharing a tweet from Twitter user @30PiecesofAG_ who said “>Cnn implicated. ‘The USSR is to blame!’ … Not anymore, Jews. Not anymore,” according to Politico.

Flynn deleted the tweet and apologized hours later, saying “the earlier retweet was a mistake” and that he meant to share a video from CNN Politics instead.

“My sincerest apologies,” he said.

Trump faced similar backlash earlier this month for sharing a photo created by a fan that accused presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton of being “corrupt,” with a six-pointed star next to her face and piles of money behind her.

Many saw the image as anti-Semitic, though Trump defended it, suggesting news outlets were “racially profiling” by linking the six-pointed star in the image to the Star of David.
