Trump: I’ll announce VP pick at convention
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Thursday said he would announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention in July.
“It is early — we just won yesterday,” Trump told The Associated Press on Thursday.
{mosads}”I will announce it at the convention. A lot of people are interested.”
Speculation has spiked this week on whom the businessman may pick as his running mate after he clinched the title of presumptive nominee earlier this week when his last two rivals dropped out.
Several potential picks, including New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), have signaled they’re not interested in the position.
Trump has also faced questions about picking a former presidential rival such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) or Ohio Gov. John Kasich, though he hasn’t committed to anyone yet.
The businessman’s eventual pick will play a crucial role in winning over certain parts of the GOP after a bitter primary, while also positioning him for a likely general election fight with Hillary Clinton.
