Clinton holds double-digit lead in Michigan

Hillary Clinton holds a 17-point lead over rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Michigan, according to a new poll released just days before the state’s voters head to the polls.

{mosads}Clinton leads Sanders, 57 to 40 percent, among the state’s likely Democratic primary voters in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.

Pollsters noted, however, that Clinton’s support is more narrow among the larger Democratic electorate, at 52 to 44 percent.

Clinton leads Sanders among Michigan’s African-Americans, those ages 45 and older, Democrats, women, men, and whites.

Sanders leads among the state’s independents and those under 45 years old.

Both Clinton and Sanders would beat GOP front-runner Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up in Michigan, according to the poll, with Sanders winning by 22 points and Clinton by 16 points.

The NBC/WSJ/Marist poll, conducted March 1-3, has a 4.2 percent margin of error.
